About the Project

The project “Urban Climate Adaptation and Recovery Efforts through Green Infrastructure in the Black Sea Basin – UCare” (BSB00822) aims to strengthen urban resilience and mitigate the impact of climate change by strategically regenerating green spaces in urban areas of the Black Sea Basin. The project promotes biodiversity, improves air quality, reduces the urban heat island effect, and encourages community engagement and well-being.

Project Activities

Among the project activities are:

  • Inventory and mapping of plant species in urban green areas of the Black Sea Basin (BSB) region
  • Cooperation and transnational learning within the BSB region
  • Motivating urban communities to adopt climate-resilient solutions
  • Education and awareness activities for young people to promote green urban solutions
  • Online education for urban planning adapted to climate change
  • Increasing visibility and awareness of creating resilient communities
  • Public engagement events to promote biodiversity and climate adaptation
  • Regeneration of urban green spaces in the BSB region under the project

Expected Results

Expected results include:

  • Regeneration of the urban green area of French Park in Ungheni municipality
  • Inventory and mapping of plant species in urban green areas of the BSB region and development of the Black Sea region Plant Atlas
  • International study visits to exchange good practices and applied solutions on biodiversity conservation and climate adaptation
  • Creation of the “Green Deal Promoters” network in the BSB region
  • International conference “Communities facing climate change”
  • Tree planting programme “Partners’ Alley”
  • Community planting days with residents taking part in practical greening and biodiversity promotion
  • Creation of community volunteer groups to raise awareness of environmental protection and tackling climate change in cities
  • Interactive community activities: contests for the greenest neighbourhood, demonstration urban gardens
  • Educational programme on climate change for pupils
  • Creation of pilot community gardens in schools
